A Breakup Song For Dating App Users
After obsessing over “swiping right” on dating apps, Tom Fublé turned his frustration with online dating into a song about reaching an unobtainable dream in the digital world.

Singer-songwriter and music producer Tom Fublé is an independent musician based in Sydney, Australia. His recent release “Why” is a critique on the world of online dating largely based on personal experience. Check out our conversation in the video below where Tom shares why he wrote the song, why it was written in a dreamy style, and why he made the shocking decision to – spoiler alert! – delete all dating apps from his phone.
As a full-time musician whose music includes the styles of pop, lo-fi and EDM, his pursuit in music as a career is a complete departure from previous professional roles he’s had in law and business. Before he finally transitioned to music, he was an entrepreneur running a blockchain business with other partners where generating revenue was the absolute goal. Despite having a profitable venture, he was deeply unhappy.
So he turned to music and made the decision to toss out “monetization” as his priority in life. And before he knew it, he was obsessed with making music and enjoying the process.
“Why” is a new single Tom released in the year 2020 and is a clear example of his dedication in his new chosen career. He labored over the song – even delayed its release in order to perfect it – and worked with a team to create a music video (it is extremely well produced and totally worth a watch if you enjoy a storyline within a music feature. As for the drama, Tom had this to share: “the punch was staged but the slaps were real!”).
