From Dark to Light: Meghan Pulles Connects Through Vulnerability
“There’s always gonna be a piece of me in my music.”
What is the most common emotion embraced by composers and songwriters in the history of music?
Heartbreak.
Artist Meghan Pulles is known for writing music that exposes feelings of heartbreak and vulnerability. But this time, there’s a glimmer of hope in her latest song, “New Horizon.”
Raised in Florida, Meghan received classical training and had originally wanted to become an opera singer. She pursued that path all the way through college until she moved to New York and found deeper connections – in singer-songwriter style – with fans that heard her break-up songs.

When a listener told Meghan how much her original song “The Breakup Waltz” had resonated with him after going through a breakup, Meghan realized that writing and producing indie-pop music flowed more easily to her than opera ever did. While she had always excelled at the classical style, she had never developed a deep passion for it.
“It’s really important for me to feel fulfilled in what I do,” says Meghan.
So she began taking songwriting more seriously. “I started getting little signs from the universe that I might be affecting people with what I’m doing.” It became clear that writing and singing her own music, touching the hearts of those who want to listen, is what she’s meant to do.
During the pandemic, Meghan took a songwriting course and connected with Craig Sayer, a songwriter from Australia. Having heard Meghan’s song “How Much Longer,” Craig wanted to collaborate and the two decided to co-write a song together.
As they wrote “New Horizons” over Zoom, Meghan and Craig noticed how much they were focusing on the concepts of darkness and pain. With 2020 being a dark year already, they shifted their focus to a journey toward the light ahead.
Now, with the release of “New Horizons” they hope to bring listeners a positive influence and uplift their spirits.
“I’m going to a new horizon
Where the sun is always shining
So don’t weep for me
Someday we’ll be together in this new horizon.”
“I used to be afraid of [vulnerability],” Meghan admits about expressing personal feelings in her music, until she recognizes the connections she is able to build with her listeners by being open and honest in her writing. “By you sharing your story, you get your listeners to want to be vulnerable in their lives and connect. That’s a super special part of being a musician.”
While some musicians write about the lives they observe, Meghan’s songs are all based on personal experiences.
“I bring my truth to all my music. There’s always gonna be a piece of me in my music.” To Meghan, her writing is more than her art. Music is a literal extension of her journey in life.
